Many of Garo’s fans are unaware of a talent that he discovered later in life. When Garo’s daughter-in-law, Debby-Lu, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of 20, the helplessness he felt was unbearable. One day, he found an old set of oil paints and went out to buy a canvas. Within a short time, Garo was producing beautiful art.
This was an emotional outlet for Garo, which turned into a great way to benefit charitable causes. “Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night and paint,” he said. “I love bright colors ·and I love water; I’m hoping they [the paintings] bring happiness to people.”
Garo began by painting beach scenes and landscapes using oil paint, and later transitioned to abstract acrylic work with high gloss finishes.
